    Amphitheater

    This 400-seat outdoor amphitheater provides a space for lectures, concerts, and ceremonies.

    Courtyard

    The courtyard provides a landscaped gathering place in the center of campus with Wi-Fi coverage to allow you to work in the sun.

    Education Enhancement Department

    AUA’s EED is dedicated to fostering a campus-wide community of academic excellence. EED tutors are available to help improve your study habits, time management, and professional skills – AUA values each student and is invested in their long-term success.     Food Court

    AUA’s food court provides a variety of healthy, wholesome options to keep you energized and focused throughout the day. Here you can find anything from Subway® sandwiches to Mama Lolly’s, a local favorite best known for its vegetarian dishes.  Whether it’s gelato, salad, or roti, the Food Court has something for you.

    Health Clinic

    AUA students, faculty, and staff can use the on campus health clinic for their medical needs. The clinic demonstrates the institution’s commitment to the welfare of the AUA community by providing convenient access to quality medical care. The clinic provides: counseling services, routine medical care and screenings, vaccinations, blood tests, and electrocardiograms.

  • Special Interest Groups

    Cardiology Interest Association (CIA)

    The Cardiology Interest Association’s (CIA) mission is to create an environment where medical students passionate about Cardiology can come together to learn more about this field.  CIA aims to build a strong community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about gaining a broader understanding of various medical specialties. The club is open to members from pre-med all the way to BSIC semester. CIA is actively pursuing expansion into clinical rotations and beyond. It’s vision for members is to empower our members to excel in Cardiology, participate in research related to the field of Cardiology and gain valuable insights by engaging with experienced practicing Cardiologists, and actively promote heart-healthy lifestyles through community outreach programs and events.

    Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG)

    The Emergency Medicine Interest Group consists of students with and without past experience in the emergency services (EMTs, Paramedics, RNs, etc.) Members with experience share their knowledge in hands-on training in an effort to maintain and expand their understanding of these specialties. EMIG works with AUA’s Emergency Medicine Training Center (EMTC) to offer EMIG student support in the center’s training activities.  Monthly events include training in suturing, IV blood draws, intubations, and more.

    OB/GYN Interest Group (OBGIG)

    OBGIG’s mission is to educate students and the Antiguan community about women’s reproductive health, pregnancy and labor/delivery. OBIG raises money for organizations like the March of Dimes and for women’s shelters in Antigua, and runs suturing clinics (which include information on cesarean sections. Future plans include simulated or even live birth viewings. Participating in this group is a great opportunity for medical students to make connections and expand their knowledge of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

    Oncology Interest Group (OIG)

    OIG spreads awareness about cancer to the community and engages in cancer research. This club is not limited to those exclusively interested in the field of oncology. Any student who wants to be involved in making an impact on the community is welcome to participate.

    Radiology Interest Group (RIG)

    RIG is dedicated to educating members about the field of radiology, enhancing anatomical knowledge through radiologic images, improving diagnostic capabilities, and emphasizing the central role of imaging and radiologic intervention in patient care. RIG provides peer mentoring and a supportive learning environment for our members.

    Sports Medicine Physician Interest Group (SMPIG)

    SMPIG members are aspiring sports medicine physicians who gain valuable insight into the roles, responsibilities, and knowledge base required to specialize in this area. They have access to resources that enhance their ability to learn these fundamentals, and gain practical experience through workshops and community outreach activities.

    Surgery Interest Group (SIG)

    The Surgery Interest Group is an organization made by students for students that share the interest of pursuing a career in surgery. SIG not only provides resources and skills for future surgeons but also the opportunity for all students from different backgrounds and interests to join and learn skills that would benefit them in their medical journey. Just as in the operating room, SIG aims to foster a spirit of teamwork and education through fun, skills-centered events. They are looking forward to welcoming new and returning members to their famous suturing workshop!

    Your classmates today will be your colleagues tomorrow. AUA’s student organizations allow you to network with our diverse community and build relationships that will last a lifetime.

    AUA hosts a number of student organizations dedicated to philanthropy, student support, and community building.

    Student Government Association (SGA)

    Student Government Association (SGA) officials are elected by the student body and represent students in various capacities and venues. They also plan student events, celebrations, and other student-related activities.

    AUA Ambassadors

    Ambassadors serve as the public face of the student body at AUA, providing guidance to their peers and promoting a positive student culture at all times.

    American Medical Student Association (AMSA)

    The AUA chapter of AMSA is committed to improving health care and healthcare delivery to all residents of Antigua, promoting active improvement in medical education within the nation, involving its members in the social, moral, and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine and assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems. The group also aims to bring awareness to certain preventative measures that can be taken to improve personal health and create a sustainable environment.

    AUA Asthma League

    The goal and purpose of the AUA Asthma League is to reach out to the community to provide resources and education on asthma, medications that can be of benefit, and educational resources to aid in managing the condition. The AUA Asthma League hopes to not only provide information about asthma, but to provide the community with the tools to empower themselves, their families, and their neighbors to tackle the condition with confidence and perseverance.

    Black Male Doctors

    Black Male Doctors was born from a pressing need: addressing the stark disparities in healthcare representation. Black males are vastly underrepresented in the physician community in America. At AUA, the Black Male Doctors Interest Group mission is to rectify the healthcare imbalances that have plagued the black and brown communities.

     BMD’s purpose extends beyond mere advocacy, it was founded to bridge the knowledge gap and provide essential resources for aspiring physicians. Their goal is to be at the frontline in the campus and nationally, fighting against disparities and eradicating the stigma enveloping medicine and minority communities. They are dedicated to shaping not just efficient doctors, but also compassionate, well-rounded individuals prepared to make a profound impact on the world.

    Catholic Medical School Association (CMSA)

    AUA’s Catholic Medical Student Association (CMSA) provides formal opportunities for education, service, and worship. The CMSAs’ mission is to provide support and assistance to Catholic students, so their faith and understanding of the principles of Catholicism can grow throughout the course of their education.

    Christian Orthodox Student Association (COSA)

    Christian Orthodox Student Association provides an outlet for students studying at AUA to learn and grow in their Orthodox Christian faith. The association promotes a sense of community and fellowship among Orthodox followers as well as with the rest of the AUA student body.

    Cricket Club

    The goal of the AUA Cricket Club is to increase awareness and promote the game of cricket.  The club aims to achieve this by organizing cricket workshops, tournaments and also participating in local cricket leagues. This club serves as an outlet for students who have a love of the game or just want to stay physically active while developing teamwork and communication skills.

    Doctors for Christ (DFC)

    Doctors for Christ is a Christian organization working on the AUA campus to bring together God’s children through prayer, ministry, and most importantly, their actions. DFC’s goal is to provide emotional and spiritual support to students for the entirety of their time at AUA and beyond.

    Emergency Response Team (ERT)

    The Emergency Response Team (ERT) provides student-led emergency response services to support our student body and AUA staff. ERT provides students and AUA staff with medical assistance within the scope of available providers on campus and aids the transition to continuous care provided by the local EMS and the AUA health clinic.

    Fit Club

    Fit Club’s promotes health through exercise and nutrition. The club’s long-term goal is to enhance the sense of community at AUA for students, faculty, and staff of varying fitness levels and goals through group exercise activities. Members help each other achieve their personal fitness objectives while having fun.

    Football Club (FC)

    “To develop team building skills, encourage a healthy alternative of exercise while introducing ‘The Beautiful Game’ at AUA”

    The AUA Football Club (FC) encourages guys and girls of any age and any background, regardless of their level, to join pick-up games every Friday at 5:00 p.m. Soccer matches are held against club teams in Antigua as well.     Global Medicine Brigades

    Global Medical Brigades helps students broaden their experience and knowledge of global health. GMB aims to make yearly trips to foreign and developing cities to help provide medical help and education. Through campus and international initiatives, GMB hopes to broaden the medical perspectives of all AUA students, and of volunteers, and to make a positive impact on the communities we visit.

    Hispanic Medical Students Association (HMSA)

    The HMSA’s mission is to provide a vehicle through which AUA’s Hispanic students can support one another, and to increase awareness of Hispanic cultures on the AUA campus, in Antigua, and in the future workplaces of members after they graduate.

    HIV Community Research

    The mission of the Peer/Buddy program is to provide direct support to persons living with HIV and AIDS and their families, by specially-trained AUA students. This support includes social interaction, emotional support, monitoring of medication adherence, and facilitation of health care concerns.

    Medical Humanities Club (MHC)

    MHC encourages students to be poets, writers, and artists. The purpose of the group gives students the opportunity to express themselves through any medium and share these expressions with their peers. This club includes three sectors, each pertaining to a different interest. One is Expressive Therapy, which is an umbrella term for music, singing, dance, movement, poetry, writing, film, drama, and visual art therapy. The other sectors include research and spiritual practices such as meditation.

    Muslim Student Association (MSA)

    The Muslim Students Association (MSA) is a social and religious group created for AUA’s 100+ Muslim students. Through the MSA, Muslim students on campus can maintain and increase their faith through prayer, and a tool through which the larger AUA community can learn more about the beauty of Islam. The MSA strives to please God through community service on campus, create an inclusive atmosphere, strengthen ties with other groups, and promote education and activism.

    Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity (PHIDE)

    PhiDE creates physicians of integrity with a lifelong commitment to our guiding principles: philanthropy, deity, and education through fellowship, service, mentoring, and formal training in leadership, science, and ethics

    The Pulse

    The Pulse is a magazine created by and for AUA students and chronicles the experiences that form their medical education.     Studying is crucial to your success as a medical student, but maintaining a healthy work life balance is essential to your success as a physician. That’s why American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine has athletic fields and recreational facilities available to give our students the break they need. Whether it’s team sports or working out, find a way to play.

    Athletic Fields

    Athletic fields are ready for soccer, beach volleyball, flag football, cricket, ultimate frisbee, and other sports. Tennis and basketball courts provide an outlet for your competitive spirit. The International Cricket Association has approved AUA’s cricket field for practice matches.

    Fitness Center

    Your body’s health affects your mind’s health. Whether to take the edge off or to hone it again, AUA provides a fitness center fully equipped with treadmills, exercise machines, yoga mats, and weights. There are showers and changing rooms available as well. Access is free for all AUA students.

    Jabberwock Beach

    This mile-long, white-sand beach provides respite from the challenge of your studies. A short walk from campus, Jabberwock Beach offers a secluded haven to study or play.

    Soccer

    Games are scheduled every Saturday morning. Tournaments occur periodically; please inquire with organizers on the island.

    Cricket

    The International Cricket Association has approved AUA’s cricket field for practice matches.

    Flag Football

    Games are scheduled every Saturday evening.

    Tennis

    Faculty and local tennis pros lead instructional clinics for both novice and advanced players.
